As part of efforts to cushion the effect of COVID-19 on economy, NG-CARE Social Transfer has commenced capturing of beneficiaries in Ilorin West and Ilorin South Local Government Areas of Kwara state.
The NG-CARES Social Transfer is a State Government and World Bank initiative aimed at ameliorating the suffering posed on Kwarans by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Team members of NG-CARES Social Transfer are saddled with the responsibility of identifying, capturing and enrolling selected beneficiaries from the sixteen Local Government Areas of the State.
The Permanent Secretary, Kwara State Ministry of Woman Affairs and Social Development, Hajia Afusat Ibrahim while flagging off the exercise commended Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazak for keying in and providing the team with an enabling environment to thrive.
Hajia Ibrahim who called for proper sensitisation of beneficiaries on the judicious use of the money charged them to justify their selection.
The Transition Implementation Committee Chairmen (TIC) of Ilorin South and Ilorin West expressed delight at the initiative.
They called for sustainability of NG-CARES Social Transfer program.
Earlier the Technical Head of the Team, Hajia Aminah Yahaya explained that the NG-CARES Social Transfer program is aimed at providing succor for the aged, disabled, chronically ill and urban poor persons who are affected by the post COVID-19 economic effect.
She said the one thousand, six hundred and fifty-four beneficiaries drawn from the one hundred and seventy- seven wards of the sixteen local Government areas of Kwara State are to be paid twenty thousand naira bi monthly for one year.
The Technical Head who noted that the program is a two year plan added that another set of beneficiaries will be selected from the existing State Social Register (SSR) to benefit for another one year.
Responding on behalf of beneficiaries, a visually impaired, Mallam Muhammad Abdulraheem of the Akewu Kewe community of Ilorin South Local Government Area expressed delight for the rare opportunity.
Other beneficiaries who took part in the enrollment process which is the onboarding stage of the exercise appreciated the organisers, they called for sustainance of the program.
