Maj.-Gen. Kevin Aligbe, Commander of the Nigerian Army Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) has charged junior officers to always exceed expectations and demonstrate readiness for higher responsibility.

Aligbe gave the charge in Benin while speaking at the cocktail organised for the candidates of the 2025 Captain to Major Written Promotion Examination.

The national examination was hosted by the Nigerian Army School of Supply and Transport (NASST).

The TRADOC commander, who is also the president of the promotion examination, lauded the candidates and the directing staff for exhibiting discipline and dedication during the weeklong exercise.

“We have now concluded the most critical phase of the examination. You were deliberately exposed to the expectations and responsibilities of a Major.

“The Army is trusting you to manage resources and deliver results,” he said.

Aligbe emphasised that beyond academic performance, the examination was designed to evaluate leadership potential, professional knowledge, and capacity for strategic decision-making.

He encouraged the candidates to remain confident but not complacent, adding that the marking process would be rigorous but fair.

Also addressing the gathering, the Special Guest of Honour and Commander, Nigerian Army Corps of Supply and Transport (NACST), Maj.-Gen. Adekunle Adeyinka, lauded the organisation of the exams and commended the leadership of the host institution.

“From every indication, this examination has met the objectives of improving professional competence and bridging the existing gaps in our operational structure.

“I’m proud of how this school has represented the Corps,” he said.

Adeyinka appealed to the directing staff to extend the same level of professionalism shown during the examination into the grading process.

“Let the spirit of fairness and diligence be your guide. Those who deserve to smile at the end of the process should have every reason to,” he added.

He also expressed gratitude to the Chief of Army Staff and TRADOC leadership for maintaining the integrity of the examination and reiterated the Corps’ readiness to host future military training exercises.

In a vote of thanks on behalf of all candidates, Capt. Adachukwu Okwuka expressed appreciation to the Chief of Army Staff, the examination panel, medical team, and all support staff.

“We thank you for your commitment and sacrifices. This has been a rigorous but enlightening journey,” she said.

The event also featured presentation of souvenir to some directing staff, who distinguished themselves during the conduct of the examination including Maj.-Gen. Aligbe.

The examination, which included written assessments in key military subjects, was preceded by intensive cadet training.

The results are expected to be released after the marking concludes in the coming weeks. (NAN)
