Property Worth Millions Destroyed, As Fire Razes Pharmaceutical Company in Kwara

Property worth millions of naira was gutted by fire at Peace Pharmaceutical Company located at Hajj Camp area of Ilorin, Kwara State Capital on Tuesday afternoon.

Speaking on the incident the Public Relations Officer of the Kwara State Fire Service, Hassan Hakeem Adekunke said the investigation into the causes of the inferno revealed that it originated from the process of siphoning ethanol from a tanker to the company’s reservoir.

Hassan said the fire service crew, upon receiving the distress call, promptly departed from the station with the fire appliance to attend to the situation.

“Upon arrival at the scene, the fire crew encountered a severe and rapidly spreading fire at the Peace Pharmaceutical Company.

We were able to contain the inferno and prevent it from spreading to other parts of the company.

“The investigation into the cause of the inferno revealed that it originated from the process of siphoning ethanol from an ethanol tanker to the company’s ethanol reservoir. A spark emitted from the pumping machine ignited the flammable liquid, leading to the outbreak of the fire.

“This unfortunate incident resulted in substantial damage of property worth over N89.7 million.”

It was also gathered that the operatives of the Nigeria Police Force were also on the ground to maintain order during the incident.

Meanwhile, the state director of fire service, Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa has again reminded the general public not to hesitate to call the fire brigade on time whenever there is any fire emergency in their areas.
