Since last month’s abduction of some members of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC and the driver of the vehicle while on their way to the scheme’s orientation camp in Zamfara State, the Director General, Brig Gen Yusha’u Ahmed has been saying talks are at a high level.

The NYSC DG maintained this on Thursday when he appeared before the House of Representatives Committee on Youth.

He said there is full synergy between the security agencies to ensure the speedy release of the corps members and advised corps members to always avoid night travel.

The DG added that three of the corps members had earlier escaped from the kidnappers den while the one that was shot was released and is receiving treatment.

The NYSC boss also announced that there are plans to increase allowance of corps members but that the scheme was waiting for the increase in minimum wage to be announced by the federal government.

General Yusha’u solicited the cooperation of the National Assembly in the NYSC Trust Fund which will enable the empowerment of corps members after the compulsory one-year national service.

The Committee Chairman Rep. Martins Esin, advised the Management of the NYSC to visit the families of the abducted Corps members within the next seven days.

While commending the DG for the steps taken so far, Rep Esin urged him to synergize with other security outfits to ensure the safety of its members nationwide.

He observed that the NYSC should arrange rehabilitation for the respective corps members when eventually released.
