A former Senate President, Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki, has pledged support towards a rapid growth of the newly established Muhammad Kamalud-Deen University, Ilorin, Kwara State.
The University is named after the founder of the Ansarul-Islam Society of Nigeria, late Sheikh Muhammad Kamalud-deen Al-Adaby.
Saraki, who is the Baba Adini of Ansarul-Islam Society of Nigeria, said he was proud to identify with the university, which he said would bring honour and prestige to Ilorin and the state as a whole.
“As a bonafide son of Ilorin, Baba Adini of Ansarul Islam Society of Nigeria, and the Waziri Ngeri of Ilorin Emirate, this project is personal to me.
“This commissioning is a great project for every son and daughter of the Emirate not only for the legacy of Sheikh Kamalud-Deen, but for what we can do as the Ilorin Emirate community.
“As the Chairman of the occasion, this is not a profitable venture. It is a project for society, and that’s why it’s our project. That is why from the day it started, I have been playing my role since it started in 2005 till today,” he said.
Confirming the precise donation, the press officer on local matters to the former senate president, Abdulganiyu Abdulqadir in a statement issued said “N140m was donated for the four-year full scholarship of 100 student-beneficiaries while another donation of N26m was made to provide different facilities in the university.
Saraki also commended the current Khalifa Adabiyy and Visitor to the MKU, Ilorin, Sheikh Abdulkadir Muhammad Kamalud-Deen Al-Adabiy for his unrelenting effort towards ensuring that the University project becomes a reality.
