Scholarship Awards: AbdulRazaq Hails Ex- Governor Lawal’s Daughter, Arinola

Kwara State governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, on Saturday, praised the eldest child of the late Rear Admiral Mohammed Lawal, Arinola Lawal for awarding scholarships to 110 indigent students in the state.

Arinola, the All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Assembly’s candidate for Ilorin East Constituency is the daughter of a former governor of the state, Mohammed Lawal.

Speaking while presenting scholarships to some of the beneficiaries at the LGEA Primary School, Oke- Oyi, the headquarters of Ilorin East local government, AbdulRazaq thanked the donor for her interest in the education and future of the young ones.

AbdulRazaq assured the gathering that his administration would continue to invest heavily in the education sector.

The governor was accompanied to the event by a university don, Dr Mohamed Ghali Alaaya, the commissioner for Tertiary Education, Hon. Afeez Abolore, special adviser on Strategy, Alh Saadu Salahu and special assistant on Religion (Islam), Alh Ibrahim Danmaigoro, among others.

Two high chiefs of Ilorin Emirate, Magaji Aare, Alh Aremu Zubair, the Baba Isale and the traditional chief of Oke- Oyi also graced the occasion.

In her remarks, Hajia Arinola Lawal said the scholarship award was implemented under the foundation she floated in remembrance of his father – Mohammed Alabi Lawal Foundation.

“The event of today is not happenstance as the milk of kindness flows in my family. I recall with nostalgia and much happiness how my father, the Late Governor Mohammed Alabi Lawal, impacted positively on the lives of Kwarans, as governor between 1999- 2003 and as private person even before he became the governor.

“I had learnt the art of benevolence from our father and it’s our resolve not to deviate from this noble cause, but rather build on it.

“Today, the Mohammed Alabi Lawal Foundation will be giving scholarships to 110 indigent students in Ilorin East to help them and their parents in the pursuit of educational attainment,” she added.

She commended Governor AbdulRazaq for his administration’s robust education reforms.

“Within these three and a half years, our God-sent governor has returned the education sector to the path of glory through the rehabilitation/ reconstruction of over 600 public schools across the three senatorial districts in the state.

Governor AbdulRazaq has also prioritised the welfare of the teachers in the state through prompt payment of salaries,” she stated.
