A self-acclaimed Islamic cleric, AbdulRahman Mohammad Bello has been arrested by the operatives of the Nigerian Police Force, Kwara Command for allegedly killing a final-year student of the State College of Education, Ilorin, Hafsah Yetunde Lawal.
The deceased Hafsah was said to be murdered and her corpse dismembered after honouring the invitation of a ‘new lover’ AbdulRahman, whom she met on Facebook at his residence in Ilorin.
According to a source (names withheld), the unsuspecting Hafsah was at a naming ceremony when she received an invitation call from her killer.
“She dropped her food to answer the call and then left,” the source, adding, “Since then, we’ve been searching for her everywhere, but no one knew her whereabouts.”
However, her parents were said to have lodged the case of her missing at Police Area C Division at Oja-Oba, Ilorin on Monday, 10th of February, 2025.
It was gathered that the police requested the deceased’s phone number to track her last call which led to the arrest of the killer.
“The suspect was arrested, but initially denied the lady’s whereabouts. However, when the police searched his house, he confessed that the lady was in his area and had died of an asthma attack after he invited her over,” a police source disclosed.
“Upon further investigation, the police found the lady’s body, dismembered and hidden in a bowl, along with the equipment used to dismember her. The suspect is with us at the headquarters.”
He said that the suspect had confessed that they met on Facebook, where he obtained her phone number.
“Disturbingly, evidence found in the suspect’s house suggests this may not be his first offense. A table in his room appeared to be equipped with tools used to dismember bodies,” the source said.
“Interestingly, the suspect who committed the heinous crime is reportedly the son of a well-known cleric from Isalekoto, Ilorin.”
Confirming the incident, The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO,) Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi confirmed the heinous murder, saying: “Kwara Police Command is aware of the gruesome killing of one Miss Yetunde H. Lawal.”
She stated: “On 11/O2/2025 at about 1800hours, a case of missing person was reported at C Division Oja-Oba by her father Mr Ibrahim A Lawal.
“Immediately, the police detectives swung into action, tracked her number and arrested a suspect, exhibits recovered.
“The case was transferred yesterday (Friday) to the SCID for discreet investigations,” she confirmed.
