Sobi FM’s Dare Akogun Nominated for DAME AWARDS

The Diamond Awards for Media Excellence (DAME) has nominated Sobi FM’s Senior News Editor and Environment Journalist Dare Akogun as one of the journalist to be celebrated at its 33rd edition of  Nigeria’s flagship journalism award in Lagos.

In a letter signed by the Programme Officer Tomi Adebola and addressed to Akogun stated that his entry has has been shortlisted as one of the three finalists in the CHILD-FRIENDLY REPORTING CATEGORY.

According to the letter, “We are delighted to inform you that after the scrupulous screening of the entries for the 33rd edition of the annual Diamond Awards for Media Excellence, your news report has been shortlisted as one of the three finalists in the above-named category.

“This is, without a doubt, a feat. You are expected to attend the presentation where the first, second, and third place prizes will be awarded,” it stated.

The shortlisted story nominated for the award  “How Climate Change Is Denying Children in Kwara Community Access to Education” was produced with support from Brain Builders Development Youth Initiative (a climate-focused non-profit in Nigeria) and Sobi 101.9 FM Ilorin, Kwara State.

Established in 1991, the DAME Awards continues to highlight the ground-breaking works of reporters and producers who bring to light stories on human development, peace, governance, gender equality and human rights, among other issues.

The 33rd DAME Awards ceremony will take place at a glittering ceremony on Saturday, November 30, 2024 at the Ijakadi Hall, Radisson Blu Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos.

This prestigious event will announce the 2024 winners and recognise their outstanding contributions to journalism.

This year, the DAME Awards attracted a 634 entries.

This year’s event will honour enterprising work in various categories of journalism across radio, TV, print, and online.
