The need to update the nation’s laws on firearms to address current realities has been advocated.

Senator representing Kaduna central and the APC gubernatorial candidate, Senator Uba Sani stated this during a media parley at the kaduna state NUJ secretariat.

Uba Sani alluded that the present firearms laws were obsolete and had no provision to allow local vigilantes legitimately carry arms to assist security forces to fight terrorist elements at the grassroots.

”Nigeria as a country of over two hundred million people with over five hundred million illegal firearms in circulation in the Sahel deserve all the seriousness to confront the situation, and the room must be created at the communities level to equip local vigilantes who are capable of confronting these criminal terrorists causing havoc in our society”, he said.
