Joint Admission and Matriculation Board JAMB, has advised government to stop funding examination bodies especially in the area of Capital and overhead.

Registrar of the Board, Professor Ishaq Oloyede gave the advice at the ongoing 2023-2025 medium term expenditure framework session in the National Assembly Abuja.

Professor Ishaq Oloyede explained that in view of the dwindling economic situation, government should focus on paying staff salaries to grant the examination body full autonomy.

The registrar also urged the National Assembly to stop using JAMB’s successes in remittances as a yardstick to measure the performance of other examination bodies in the country.

He emphasized that it’s important for the House to put into consideration that examination bodies were established to serve as social service providers not revenue generating agencies.

Responding, the Deputy Chairman House committee on Finance, Alhaji Sa’idu Abdullahi who commended JAMB, urged government agencies to emulate it’s determination in the areas of transparency and accountability.(FRCN)
