Students Group Chides FG over prolonged ASUU strike

The Students Wing Coalition of Northern Group, SW-CNG, has charged Federal Government to take decisive action over the ongoing strike action by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU)

Describing the strike as detrimental to the future of youths and the overall development of the country, the group called for urgent attention to repositioning the country.

The Kwara State Coordinator of SW-CNG , Amb. Shola Ilyas Akanbi gave the admonition at a press conference in Ilorin.

He noted that many students now engage in all sorts of immoral activities that are inimical to their progress.

According to him, “It is said that “An idle hand is the devil’s workshop” as many of the students are now engaged in all forms of immoral activities which are inimical to their development and constituted a security threat to the entire society.

“If this strike lingers for too long it is not too good for our democracy which has become firmly rooted for many years now, especially at this period when the nation is at the peak of electing our new leaders in the state and the nation at large, for the security of lives and properties for our nations there is the need for rethink to the suspension of the strike by our lecturers, to give rum for dialogue and negotiation,” he said.

In the same vain, the President of the Student Union Government, Grand Plus College of Education, Comrade Olanrewaju Faruq, pleaded to the Federal Government on behalf of the union to take necessary action to bring the students back on campus.

“I will like to urge the Unions and Federal Government to harmoniously work together in order to ensure that the students are back on
their various campuses and also the Federal Government should try as much as possible to turn a listening hears to the Unions demands which I believe by so doing, will stop incessant strikes.

“Nigeria is our country and we cannot deny it even though some have the citizenship of another country.

He further advised the youths to desist from political thuggery and not be swayed by the 2023 general elections.

“I want to use this medium to implore Nigerian Youths to endeavour to vote for the right candidate come 2023.

“It is important to note that these political gladiators will surely come with money to use it to induce or convince you so that you would vote for them.
