Suspension of Lone House of Assembly Member: Kwara PDP Talks Tough, Gives Speaker Danladi’s 48hrs

0

The People Democratic Party (PDP) kwara State Chapter, today Thursday says it gives leadership of the Kwara State House of Assembly, headed by the Rt. Hon. Yakubu Danladi-Salihu 48 hours to reverse their anti Democratic stand on the continued suspension of a lone PDP member in the Assembly, Hon. AbdulRaheem Agboola.

This is disclosed in a statement signed by the publicity secretary of PDP in the state,Tunde Ashaolu, said “We give the Speaker and his cohorts 48 hours to reverse thier anti Democratic stand on Agoola and make a public apology to all kwarans for embarrassing our dear State. If They refuse, we will then let them understand that power truly belongs to the people”

“It is regrettable and disappointing when the Kwara PDP learned that gross injustice has yet again prevailed at the Kwara state House of Assembly as the only opposition party members in the house, Hon AbdulRaheem Agboola is being denied entry into the House”

“The decision of the leadership of the House to ‘reprimand’ Agboola by suspending him for 14 legislative days over baseless accusations of contempt and breach of privilege of the House is a great insult to the cognition of Kwarans”

“It is easy to lay accusations but it is another thing to present evidence to back it up, something the house failed to do all these while”

“Speaking of contempt, I don’t think the leadership of the house is aware of the fact that disobeying court orders is actually a contempt of the Law and the Nigerian people they represent”

“It would be a horrendous mistake on the part of the house members to think Agboola will be a soft target for them to pick on due to his numerical disadvantage, but they should have it in mind that he is there to represent thousands of people of his constituency”

“We first of all need to establish that for two successive days, Agboola has been denied entry into the sitting chamber of the state Assembly after several abortive attempts, with no reasonable reason given for that action”

“It was also gathered that this latest access denial by the security personnel at the entry of the chamber was done at the behest of the Speaker of the House, Hon.Salihu Yakubu-Danladi”

“Many will recall the episode that happened not so long ago in last December, the same Agboola who had been on suspension for 6 months, was assaulted by his own colleagues ,right inside the sitting chamber of the house”

“That was not even enough as he is now being denied entry into the House on the day that the state budget is going through its second reading, a house he was voted into by his people just like other members, despite having no constitutional right to impede him from entering the house”

“What exactly is this government trying to hide from the people of the state ? because the house is now becoming more like a cult whereby people that don’t belong to a particular party are not allowed into the house, a house that belongs to the entirety of Kwara”

“Because everytime the executives and the legislature are about to discuss anything that concern the finances of the state on issues like the Bond application, Budget and supplementary budget, they always try to exclude Agboola, even now he is the only member of the house that wasn’t given a copy of the budget”

“The height of it all now is that the lawmaker’s seat on the floor of the House has been removed, it is really disappointing that these revered members of the society could reduce themselves to such level of pettiness”

“The fact that the beleaguered lawmaker is being alienated in a house that belongs to everyone of us will never make sense”

“It is quite Unfortunate that this present administration is trading uprightness and justice for mere politicking and it is so shameful that our house has reduced itself to mere rubber stamp legislature , pocketed by the Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq”

“We want the state Governor and the leadership of the House to understand that the world is watching this injustice but it will be wise for them to know that posterity will judge everyone that has been Invested with a certain responsibility or power”

“Like kwara PDP said the other time, the people would expect the so called ‘Honourables’ to act according to their appellation and be of more honourable conduct, they might not realize it but they are supposed to be the face of the people they’re representing”

“Democracy should be a government of the people and by the people and for the people, not for some people, meaning everyone and everywhere deserve representation in democracy, which our party has been championing since coming of this present republic”

“We want to categorically state that our great Party, the PDP, won’t take this yet another injustice from the Government and its underlings in the house and let the only voice of reasoning in the house be silenced”

“Democracy is currently under a siege in KWHA as the popularly agreed best system of government is being held captive by some group of Agbada-wearing ‘mistakes’”

“The kwara PDP hereby calls on the National Assembly, precisely the Speaker and the Senate President to save Democracy urgently curb this anti Democratic tendencies of the Speaker and kwara State House of Assembly”

“We as well urge NGOs, INGs who have Legislature and Democratic thrust to urgently take this issue as a matter of importance and pull all Democratic networks together to stop this menace to our nascent democracy in kwara and Nigeria at large”

“We hereby give the Speaker and his cohorts 48 hours to reverse thier anti Democratic stand on Agoola and make a public apology to all kwarans for embarrassing our dear State. If They refuse, we will then let them understand that power truly belongs to the people”
