Emir of Lafiagi Appeals to Govt over incessant flood in his Communities

Emir of Lafiagi, Alhaji Saadu Kawu Haliru (OFR) in Edu local government area of kwara state has appealed to the governments  over what he called yearly occurrence of flooding  in Lafiagi communities.

The Emir made the appeal on Tuesday while addressing the state government delegate led by the Deputy Governor, Mr Kayode Alabi who paid a commiseration visit to the royal highness and the victims of flooding that happened in some communities in the town as result of heavy downpours of rain over the last weekend.

Emir Haliru, who appeal to government to come and relocate his people in the flood prone areas said the relocation is important considering the earlier prediction of imminent heavy downpours of rain in some states in Nigeria, in which Kwara is among by NIMET.

“This has been yearly occurrence in my communities and I want to appeal to government at all levels, Federal, State and local government to please come to our assistance by relocating the peoples in flood prone areas to an high hill places permanently”

The first class traditional ruler in Kwara state, who expressed the miserable conditions the victims were passing through said many of them had been sacked from their inhabitant with their farmland destroyed by flood and called on the government to come to their rescue by providing alternative home for the victims and potential victims in the town.

One of the victims at Chewuru village in Lafiagi, who is also head of that community, Saliu Umoru said they are ready to relocate to an high hill area where they will have peace of mind and turn their indigenous community to farmland.

Umoru, said “we are appealing to the government and all our representatives within the government to come to our rescue by providing another abode for us”.

Deputy Governor, Mr. Kayode Alabi had earlier at the Emir’s palace assured the Emir and all the victims of the flood of government support said “we are here to express our sympathy to your royal highness and all the victims of the flooding  and we are assuring you of government support soonest”

In a similar development, the state Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has visited the newly appointed Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) retired Air Vice Marshall Muhammadu Muhammed to seek support for victims of recent flooding in the state, among other issues in the state.

The NEMA DG, who commended AbdulRazaq for the visit, said the governor’s request would be treated as an emergency.
