Manchester United manager, Erik ten Hag, has identified the likes of Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham and Newcastle as the club’s biggest challengers in the Premier League.

Ten Hag, who appeared to forget to mention Arsenal, said this while urging any new Manchester United owners to invest in the squad.

Just last month, the Glazer family announced they were considering selling Manchester United after 17 years at the helm, with many Red Devils fans hoping that new owners could be the key to ending their wait for silverware.

Man United last won the Premier League title almost ten years ago, and Ten Hag is very conscious of how hard it will be to end that wait and believes there are as many as six teams who challenge his team for the title.

“There’s a change in circumstances when you compare [the Premier League] with five or 10 years ago,” Ten Hag coach told reporters of Man United’s EFL Cup with Burnley next Wednesday. “The competition is much tougher.

“Newcastle are coming, even West Ham, maybe not now in the table, but they have a huge investment.

“Spurs definitely, and I don’t need to talk about [Manchester] City and Liverpool or Chelsea. You can quickly count seven or eight clubs that can compete in this league.

“It’s also about strategy, not just money. But it’s clear that when you don’t have the right players and quality players, you will not be successful and achieve the targets you set.”
