The Osun State Election Petition Tribunal on Friday sacked the newly elected state Governor, Ademola Adeleke, declaring he didn’t win the July 16 governorship election.
The tribunal ruled that the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Gboyega Oyetola won the election and should be declared governor-elect.
Delivering the majority decision, Justice Tetsea Kume, declared that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) did not comply substantially with the Constitution and the provisions of the Electoral Act.
He subsequently deducted the over-voting observed from the votes scored by the candidates and declared that Oyetola won the election, having polled 314, 921, while Adeleke’s score came down to 290, 266.
He ordered INEC to withdraw the certificate of return issued to Adeleke and issue a new one to Oyetola.
