UAE donates relief items to flood victims in Nigeria

The Director-General, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mustapha Habib Ahmed has taken delivery of relief food items donated by the United Arab Emirates to Nigeria following the recent flood disaster.

A Bushames cargo Airlines plane, which transported the relief materials, arrived at the General Aviation Terminal wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport on Friday afternoon, and was received by the representative of the Director-General, NEMA, Dr Onimode Bandele on behalf of the Federal Government.

In his remark, the NEMA DG appreciated the kind gesture of the Government and people of the UAE, especially when efforts were being made by the Nigerian Government to support the populace in relief and recovery  in communities that were devastated by the flood.

He conveyed the appreciation of President Muhammadu Buhari and the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar-Farouq for the donation and assured the donor-government that the items would be distributed to the targeted beneficiaries.

The UAE Ambassador to Nigeria, Dr Fahad Al-Taffaq, who presented the items on behalf of the Government in Dubai, said the gesture  to support victims of the flood disaster was in  solidarity with Nigeria, not least because   of existing diplomatic relations between the two countries.

The representative of the Director-General, NEMA, was joined by Director, Search and Rescue, NEMA, Air Commodore Edward Adedokun, Ambassador Mustapha Tunde; Director, Regions, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and some senior staff of the Agency.

Also present at the Airport were officials of the Nigerian Customs Service, Nigerian Immigration Service and other relevant agencies. (FRCN)
