Nigeria’s representative in United Nations Development Programme, UNDP, Mohammed Yahaya, has disclosed that the organization will give financial support to the vulnerable people in Kwara as part of ongoing Covid-19 recovery support to Nigerian states.
Mohammed made this known while meeting with the Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq on Tuesday.
AbdulRazaq, while meeting with the UNDP representative disclosed the effort his administration is making to alleviate poverty in the state and solicit further support from the organization.
The Governor stated that Kwara is one of the few states in Nigeria that attaches a high premium on social security and investment programmes through the Kwara State Social Investment Programmes (KWASSIP) with special interest on petty traders, the aged, with young entrepreneurs getting million naira support funds.
The UNDP chief however assured the Governor of the support of the organization in the area of cash transfers to the most vulnerable people in the state as part of its COVID-19 recovery support initiative.
The UNDP is a non-profit organisation that supports governments to meet their long-term development aspirations.
The UNDP chief also shared the story of the meeting with the Kwara Governor on his Twitter page.
“Had the pleasure meeting with Governor @RealAARahman of #Kwara State. We discussed his development priorities for the state. @UNDPNigeria will support cash transfers to the most vulnerable people in #Kwara as part of our ongoing #Covid recovery support to Nigerian states,” he wrote.
