The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Professor Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, on Monday, reiterated the commitment of his administration to see through the homegrown electric transportation to ease movement to and from the campus.
Professor Egbewole stated this during the media/Iftar interactive session held with Journalists at the University premises.
“Our efforts on easing transportation challenges are much on, move on railway transportation is much on and we are also looking at electric bus transportation.
“The good thing about electric bus transportation is that it is going to be homegrown, a few of our colleagues in the Department of Electrical Engineering are already working on that model.
“We just released the Senate research grant and we are hoping that part of the grants will be used to work on the model we are looking at.
“Of course, we are planning that in the interim, we will still inject more buses into the system and we are having discussion with some people that wanted to bring in more buses into our transportation system.
“We are also looking at the government of Kwara State to complete the Tanke bridge which will further reduce the challenge of transportation.
Responding to a question on sports, the Vice-Chancellor said the institution is sports-loving and his administration will continue to support sports in all ramifications said “The institution contingent will be participating in the forthcoming World Universities Community game coming up in Europe in a few months time and they will be given adequate support to be successful” Egbewole said.
He, further stated that he is working to make the University of Ilorin to be number one University in Nigeria, Africa and hopefully to be one of the very prominent key players in the world with their vision 110-500.
