Unknown Gunmen Abduct Kwara monarch, wife, driver

Unknown gunmen at the weekend abducted the traditional ruler of Owa Onire town in Ifelodun local government area of Kwara state, his wife and his driver.

Meanwhile, operatives of the state police command who swooped into action in collaboration with local hunters have rescued the monarch’s wife.

Similarly, the command said it has arrested two suspects by name Bello Abubakr, 31 years and Bawa Seketri, 30 years who were allegedly involved in the abduction.

The state police Public Relations Officer, Okasanmi Ajayi, confirmed the development in a statement on Sunday. 

The statement reads, “at about 1645hrs of 1/10/2022, information was received by the police command to the effect that the traditional ruler of Owa Onire a rusty town in Ifelodun local government area of Kwara State, his wife and driver were abducted by unknown armed men.

“Police tactical teams with vigilante and hunters were immediately dispatched to the area by the commissioner of police, CP Paul Odama with an order to rescue the victims and arrest the perpetrators.

“The efforts of the teams led to the rescue of the abducted wife of the traditional ruler while two of the suspects involved in the kidnap by name Bello Abubakr ‘M’ 31 yrs and Bawa Seketri ‘M’ 30yrs were arrested and helping the command in her investigation, an effort to rescue the traditional ruler and his driver still ongoing while the rescued wife have been released to join her family”.
