An American University Professor,Joseph Dituri in Florida has spent 74 days under water at a deep lagoon in Key Largo, Florida.
The US researcher has broken the world record for the longest time spent living underwater beating previous records established by two professors in 2014 in the same Key Largo lodge.
The two Tennessee Professors Bruce Cantrell and Jessica Fain spent 73 days, 2 hours and 34 minutes under water.
Breaking the record, Prof. Dituri on Sunday said he would stay in Jules’ Undersea Lodge for at least 100 days.
Prof Dituri also known as Dr. Deep Sea started his journey on 1 March at Jules’ Undersea Lodge, a small hotel for scuba divers that sits at the bottom of a lagoon in the Florida Keys.
Jules’ Undersea Lodge, a 9.1-metre-deep lagoon has no technology to depressurize its environment.
The 55-year-old is being monitored by Researchers studying his health and the psychological effects of being isolation.
According to University of South Florida, Prof Dituri still carries out his duties lecturing his biomedical engineering classes online.
The Prof. is expected to complete the underwater mission tagged Project Neptune, on June 9, 2023.
