Chairmen of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 17 wards of Moro Local Government Areas of Kwara State on Monday endorsed the suspension of the Local Government party chairman, Alhaji Adebayo Jimoh by members of the local government executive.
This endorsement was sequel to the decision taken by 17 members of the executive council last Friday, suspending the chairman over alleged anti -party activities and diversion of logistics and money meant for delegates during the last senatorial primaries in the local government.
Addressing newsmen at the NUJ Press Centre in Ilorin, the spokesman for the 17 ward chairmen led by Shao ward chairman, Elder David Adebiyi said the suspension of the chairman was long over due in view of the allegations levelled against him.
They said the continued stayed in office of Adebayo may affect the chances of the party in the 2023 elections.
The ward chairmen said the suspension of Adebayo by the local government executives was in order and in accordance with the constitution of the party .
“We hereby, unequivocally, wish to declare our appreciation and support for the decision of and steps taken by members of the party’s local government executive committee, which led to the suspension of Alh Adebayo Jimoh as Moro local government APC Chairman, on Friday 15 July ,2022.
“While we consider the action taken by local government party’s executive committee as not only being long overdue, it is however also apt and in line with the provisions in the constitution of APC .
“Therefore, we want to dissociate ourselves from the condemnation actions by those who reffered to themselves, in borrowed robes, as APC ward chairmen in Moro local government,” he said.
The APC ward chairmen said all the complaints, allegations against the chairman and his eventual suspension had been brought to the notice of the state secretariat of the party in Ilorin, and they were awaiting their response.
The group also accused the state Legal Adviser of the party, Barrister Jimoh Lawal of complicity in the crisis, saying “we also warned the state legal adviser to stop name dropping, as a way of working in the interest of those causing crisis for the party in our local government”
They, however, expressed their continued support and loyalty to the state governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
