The Nigerian Army Military Base Hospital in Benin, has rewarded two soldiers and three civilians for their outstanding performance and dedication to duty.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the award was part of the activities, marking the 2023 West African Social Activities (WASA) of the hospital.
Cpl Lucy Onye emerged the overall best female soldier, while Lance Cpl Amadu Mohammed emerged overall best male soldier of the hospital.
Dr Osabueki Iguodala won overall best civilian medical doctor, Nurse Yetunde Adepoju, overall best civilian nurse while Mr. Peter Odono emerged overall best unit gardeners for 2023.
Presenting the award to the beneficiaries, the Director of the Military hospital, Brig. Gen. Paulina Aburime, said the awardees distinguished themselves in the discharge of their duties.
WASA, she said, was an avenue for the military to showcase the cultural heritage of the nation and the commandeering that exists among military units.
“It affords us an opportunity to come together to relax, have fun and forge stronger bond with one another.
“It is also a time to reflect on our accomplishment, celebrate our success and look forward to the year ahead with renewed enthusiasm and determination,” he said.
The director charged soldiers, officers and civilians to fully participate in the activities planned for the celebration and make the most of this special event.
“Let us celebrate the spirit of togetherness, unity and pride that we find in our military unit.
“Our WASA will be the best, We have been to 4 Brigade, Ekhuan barracks and Army School of Supply and Transport’s WASA celebrations.
“We, the military hospital that is usually referred to as a soft spot, want to show you that our WASA will be the best,” said the brigadier general.
On his part, the Commander, 4 Brigade, Nigeria Army, Benin, Brig.-Gen. Ebenizer Uduyebo, charged the awardees to continue with the good work, saying to whom much was given, much would be expected.
“WASA is an annual event for soldiers, officers and members of the military to interact with civilians and unwind in a relax environment to mark the end of the year 2023 land signal the commencement of 2024 haven marked thr end of last year,” said the senior military officer.
He commended the director of the military hospital for organising a very colourful WASA for the benefits of soldiers and officers of the military as well as civilians.
The highlights of the event included cultural dance, tug of war between soldiers’ wives and soldier women among others.
