Former FIFA President, Sepp Blatter has said that Lionel Messi did not deserve the Golden Ball at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
He received the Golden Ball as the FIFA Committee voted the Argentine the best player of the tournament for his eye-catching performances at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
Blatter said that the former Barcelona man did not deserve the accolade.
The former FIFA boss said the decision by the committee was not correct.
Messi scored four goals and provided assists in seven games as he led his nation to the final of the tournament.
He was, however, unlucky, as his side lost to Germany 1-0 courtesy of an extra time strike from Mario Gotze.
Messi was picked as the showpiece’s best player ahead of German international, Thomas Mueller and the Netherlands’ Arjen Robben.
“Shall I be diplomatic, or shall I tell you the truth? Listen, I was myself a little bit surprised when I saw Lionel Messi coming up for best player of the tournament,” he told AS.
“I think the decision was incorrect,” he added.
Blatter said he was surprised when the committee presented their decision to him and told him they had only considered ten of the players who took part in the final.
