Zamfara Govt Shuts Media Houses For Covering Political Rally

Governor Bello Muhammad Matawalle of Zamfara State has shutdown all federal and private media Houses in the state for covering PDP’s political rally.

He also directed the state commissioner of Police to arrest all pressmen that attended the event organized by the PDP governorship candidate Dr Dauda Lawal Dare.

This is contained in a statement signed by the Commissioner of information Alhaji Ibrahim Magaji Dosara.

The order affects Radio Nigeria Pride FM Gusau, NTA Gusau, Gamji Television, Vision FM, Al’Umma TV amongst others.

Zamfara State government earlier announced a suspension of all political activities in some part of the state over the resurgence of insecurity.

The announcement says, government is saddened and worried about the resurgence of the activities of bandits and the recent killings of some innocent people in Gusau, Tsafe, Gummi, Bukkuyum, Anka Bungudu, Maru, Maradun and Kaura Namoda Local Government Areas.

The announcement stated that the state government has approved the shutdown of Anka, Bukkuyum and Gummi Local Government Areas as well as towns and villages that includes: Yarkofoji, Birnin Tudu, Rini, Gora Namaye, Janbako, Faru, Kaya, Boko and Mada.

“All movements are henceforth restricted in the aforementioned local governments and towns. Security personnel have been directed to deal ruthlessly with anybody found violating the restriction order”.

“Similarly, the government also considered closing down the markets at Danjibga and Bagega.

“The Government also closed down Colony to Lambar Boko Road; Bakura to Lambar Damri Road; Mayanchi- Daki Takwas to Gummi Road; Daki Takwas to Zuru Road; Kucheri- Bawaganga – Wanke Road; Magami to Dangulbi Road and Gusau to Magami Road.

“Furthermore, the government has suspended all political activities in the state till further notice. Political meetings and gatherings at individual residences are also banned with immediate effect.

“The announcement further says the measures are taken to facilitate and enable security operatives to conduct their operations without hindrances.

“By this announcement, security personnel are hereby directed to deal ruthlessly with any one found violating these orders”.

However, the PDP went ahead with its inaugural rally which enjoyed media coverage by the affected media.

  1. This is meaningless development. When media houses are suspended without a collective agreement with the inhabitants of the so affected areas ,it criminal tendency irrespective of who gave the order. When you are good, you don’t need to announce yourself for people to work for you. Guilty conscience fears accusations. (Yet , God will work and who will let it)
