The governorship candidate of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) in the 2023 general election in Kwara State, Alhaji Yakubu Gobir on Thursday made it known that he would not be involved in name calling and campaign of calumny said he is a dignified man and traditional title holder in the state and beyond.
Gobir, who holds the traditional title of Madawaki of Ilorin emirate, and Waziri of Hausaland in Kastina said he is in the race to win it and give Kwarans good governance.
The business tycoon cum politician disclosed this while meeting with the party stalwarts and followers in the Ilorin South Local Government Area of the state as part of the preparation ahead of the official declaration for the campaign.
Addressing party members at Balogun Fulani the guber candidate said YPP will not merge with any leading political party but rather build a party that will be heavy on others.
“I’m a traditional title holder. I will not be involved in name calling, political fighting or blackmail. Some people think because of my gentle nature, I’m not that serious. No. Be rest assured that we’re in politics for serious business. We put the APC government in power at the state and federal levels. We donated vehicles, material and resources. But we found out that there’s no truth but only deceit. We saw that from afar and we brought YPP to advance our determination to better life of our people.
“I can assure you that we will not join any other party. They would rather join us”, he said.
The guber candidate said YPP was formed, specifically, to cater for youth and women, considering their present challenges in the country, enjoined them to be steadfast towards making the party victorious in the general elections.
Stated that the main focus of the party is youth development, and added that the party was prepared to make life better and meaningful for youth and women in the state.
Earlier during a courtesy call on the Balogun Fulani of Ilorin, Alhaji Abubakar Sidiq Atiku Fulani, the Balogun Fulani extolled the virtues of the YPP governorship candidate, saying that his philanthropic activities would come to play and be remembered by beneficiaries during the electioneering process.
Also, the state party chairman, Chief Dele Ogunbayo, commended members of the party for a large turnout and charged them to be focused and steadfast.
The party chairman, however announced donation made by the governorship candidate in form of cash for prosecution of the electioneering campaign, Ankara materials and wall clocks for party members in each of the 11 wards of the local government.
