Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, has produced 82 First Class graduates among the overall 8,119 graduating students at its 13th convocation ceremony.

This was disclosed to the journalists by the Vice-Chancellor of the Institution Professor Shaykh-Luqman Alade Jimoh
During the convocation press briefing on Tuesday, it was said that 7,618 earned first degrees while 501 bagged postgraduate degrees.

He gave the breakdown of the graduating students: 1,986 Second Class Upper degree holders, 4,195 Second Class Lower graduates, and 1,355 Third Class graduands, adding that there are 75 Ph. D.s and 426 Master’s graduands at the postgraduate level.

    Professor Jimoh, further explained that
KWASU was established and designed as Multi multi-campus university, said that The recent relocation of the students at the Osi and Ilesha Baruba Campuses of the institution is not because of insecurity but for the convocation activities that the students requested to be part of added that they are expected to resume at their various campuses immediately after the convocation ceremony and mid-semester holidays.

He said that the academic growth of the University in the last year was reflected in the take-off of Osi and Ilesha Baruba campuses.

“Both staff and students of the Faculty of Environmental Sciences and the Faculty of Agriculture and Veterinary Sciences have been integrated in these communities with lectures and research activities ongoing for the 2025/2026 session.

“This has facilitated the spread of the institution to other parts of the state with the expected socio-economic benefits to the communities hosting them.

“The success of the take-off of these two campuses belongs to the Visitor to Kwara State University and the governor of the state, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, whose doggedness has resulted in the realisation of the dream of three functional campuses of Kwara State University.

“We sincerely thank Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, for the commitment. I must also commend the Olosi of Osi, Oba Saliu Abdulkareem Adasofegbe Arowobeku I; the Emir of Ilesha-Baruba, Professor Halidu Abubakar; and the entire Osi and Ilesha-Baruba communities for warmly welcoming staff and students of KWASU into their midst. They have accommodated the KWASU Community, encouraging their integration into those communities.

“This is just like the way the Malete community welcomed us when the University began 16 years ago. For us, it is a reminder of the strategic importance of the synergy between the town and the gown. We will do all in our power to sustain the cordial relationship with all our host communities.

The Vice-Chancellor also said that the Varsity’s fourth-year medical students have resumed at the State University Teaching Hospital, while 56 Law graduates of the KWASU have been called to the Bar this year.

“These are the first and second sets of Law graduates of KWASU. These developments are milestones we have long waited for as KWASU continues to train and produce a critical workforce for the different sectors.

“With 81 undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, we have maintained our success rate in the accreditation status of programmes”, he said.

On infrastructure, Professor Jimoh said the school has continued to strive to increase and improve under the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) which recently approved a N1 billion Special Intervention project to complete the Library Annex.

“All 11 faculties and other stations of the institution have been equipped with an ultramodern, fully functional smart classroom to boost teaching across time and space”, he noted.

“The Experience Centre donated by the Office of Nigeria’s First Lady and TETFund is almost ready, just as the Central Laboratory donated by the Central Bank of Nigeria has reached an advanced stage.

“The Faculty of Law building is also progressing steadily and will upon completion, create more classrooms and office spaces.

Through Public-Private Partnership with Rangeman Construction Ltd, the Malete campus now has an additional 150-room/600-bed space hostel which is already in use by our students.

“This is a huge addition and a great boost to our drive for more on-campus housing for our teeming students. While we strive to increase infrastructure, we are committed to maintaining existing ones because we take exceptional pride in our very beautiful campuses,” he said.

According to him, scholars in the school are presently attracting high-impact research grants especially in the fields of engineering and agriculture, disclosing that one Dr. Mustapha Kabiru and Dr. Adesina Lambe Mutalub of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, separately won the National Research Fund NRF grants.

He said that KWASU currently runs four centres for Women Development in Ilorin, Osi, Ilesha-Baruba, and Malete where 125 have so far graduated with skills in ready-to-wear female clothes and men’s caps, “They have also been empowered with industrial sewing machines, android phones for e-marketing, and mentorship to guide the establishment of their businesses,” he said.
