The League Management Company (LMC) has been declared “illegal” by the Ministry of Sports and Youth Development and is not recognized by the federal government.
According to a statement issued by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Ismaila Abubakar, on Friday, the Ministry requested that the NFF immediately withdraw the license granted to the LMC and establish an Interim Management Committee (IMC) to oversee the league’s affairs going forward.
LMC is the organization and promotion body for the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).
According to the Ministry, the LMC’s status is “outside the purview of the NFF Statutes.”
“In view of the several unpleasant incidents regarding the management of the Football League, specifically, the declaration of the National Football League (NFL) as an illegal body by the Court” Ismaila Abubakar stated.
Federal Government is constrained to withdraw its recognition of the LMC as the operator of the Nigeria Professional Football League, with immediate effect,” the statement reads.
Permanent Secretary says the decision became necessary because of the obvious aberration for a private company to manage or run the league indefinitely, without the full involvement of and leadership by the clubs, and devoid of any process to monitor the progress and development of the game.
The League Management Company, LMC which is the football body that organizes the Nigeria Professional Football League was established since 2012 to be in charge of the local professional league in Nigeria.
