Nigeria’s standard agency destroys fake Unifoam in Kwara

Standard Organization of Nigeria (SON) has confiscated a total number of 18 fake UNIFOAM mattresses in Tsaragi, Edu Local Government Area of Kwara state.

Mr Oyebola Ayeni, State Coordinator of SON said that the main objective of Director General of SON, Mallam Farouk Salim was to ensure that quality assurance was enforced within the country.

Ayeni, who was represented by Mrs Mariam Dolapo, Head of Unit, Chemical Technology of SON said that their objective was to ensure that the enforcement officers always carried out their intelligent work.

The state coordinator said that the culprit, Kingsley Kelechi was arrested on March 23, after discovering that he was branding his mattresses with UNIFOAM clothes.

“The man in question is buying another product of crystal foam and clothing his mattresses with UNIFOAM.

“We have removed all the 18 mattresses found in his two shops, to confirm if the foam is in correct density, which is our starting point,” he said.

Ayeni noted that the UNIFOAM clothes that the culprit was using looked so real and had conducted their investigations and have their facts at hand.

“We have discovered where he is getting the UNIFOAM clothes and all the people involved had been arrested, but he is the only person in Kwara that was arrested in relation to the case,” state coordinator explained.

He however warn other business men and women to stay true with their dealings, saying that there was no need to imitate others work before succeeding.

Engr. Eneh Anthony, Head of enforcement, SON disclosed that a reliable source told them about the culprit illegal act and they conducted their intelligence gathering and found him guilty.

“He pleaded guilty during interrogation at the Civil Defence office and we discovered 18 matrasses from the culprit shop, located at Etsu Salihu, Mamma Saba Shopping Complex, Tsaragi, at Sabo Area,” he said.

Kelechi said that he got the product from a source at Ogbomosho and had been in the business for six months.

He however said that he is using crystal foam to package his mattresses, only the clothes has UNIFOAM name written on it.

Kelechi recalled that he spent 24 hours in detention at the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence headquarters, Ilorin and had told them everything he knew about the UNIFOAM clothes.

He however pleaded for his goods to be returned to him, to enable him continue with his business, with other companies. (NAN)
