Police arrest woman for allegedly using 10-year-old niece as drug courier

Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 44-year-old woman, Taiye Abass, for allegedly using her 10-year-old niece as a drug courier in the state.


The command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the arrest on Tuesday, while parading the suspect before newsmen.


Hundeyin said the suspect was arrested last Wednesday, after her niece was found roaming the street and was brought to Pen Cinema Police Division by a neighbour. He said while at the station, the DPO ordered that the girl should take her bath, while they look for her parents.

He said, while the girl was trying to take her bath, the police discovered some substance suspected to be Cororado planted in her pants.


“The discovery prompted further questions, which revealed that this has been going on for a long time. So, we have to extend investigation to her house and we were able to bring her guardian (suspect) to the police station.


“She did not deny it. She admitted that this had been her way to courier her drug from her house to the shop she sells them to beat police check.

“That is why we are exposing her to Nigerians the method used by drug baron to courier drugs within the metropolis,” he said.


The image maker said that the girl will be handed over to her family from Ilorin, while the suspect will be prosecuted accordingly.


Speaking to newsmen, the girl said that the suspect, who is her mother’s sister, brought her from Ilorin about two months ago to stay with her.

She said, two days after her arrival, the suspect she called “Mummy”, after her bath in the morning, planted the drugs in her pants to take to her shop.


The girl said from the shop, her “mummy” will remove the drugs and sell to some people coming to buy from her daily.
