A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and, chairman of the Alliance For Sustainable Kwara (ASK), Alhaji Razaq Lawal has reminded Nigerians of the potential dangers that violent protest poses to the security of lives and property.
Lawal who spoke with newsmen in Ilorin on Tuesday therefore urged Nigerians, especially the people of Kwara State not to participate in the planned August 1, 2024 protest.
He reminded Nigerians, especially the youths of the collosal economic loss suffered by the government, organisations and individuals in the wakes of the ill- fated #EndSARS protests.
He urged Nigerians to circumvent the recurrence of the aftermath of the #EndSARS protest by shunning the latest protest being organised by certain unpatriotic elements.
While acknowledging the right of citizens to assembly and demand for good governance, the grassroot politician reminded them that the Nigeria’s challenges have been there for more than five decades and cannot be solved within a year.
He pleaded with Nigerians to give President Bola Tinubu and the 36 states governors ably led by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State more time to fix the country and return it to the path of glory.
He noted that both President Tinubu and Governor AbdulRazaq have been implementing people – focused programmes and policies capable of making life abundant for Nigerians.
Lawal particularly enjoined the people of Kwara State to continue to promote peace and stability to encourage Governor AbdulRazaq to do more for them
He, therefore, advised Kwarans in every part of the country not to participate in any protest come August 1 or at any time.
He noted that there are many peaceful avenues through which the people can make their grievances known to the government other than protest which may leave in its wake anguish and sorrow.
