Court strikes out Oyo deputy gov’s suit against impeachment process

A High Court sitting in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, has dismissed a case filed by Rauf Olaniyan, the deputy governor, challenging the move to remove him from office.

The House of Assembly in the state commenced an impeachment move against Olaniyan on account of alleged misconduct.

Justice Ladiran Akintola held that the lawmakers and all the defendants did not err on the impeachment process.

According to Akintola, the originating summons filed by the claimant was purely a legislative procedure and not judicial in line with the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
