DG MINILS Seeks More Collaboration with Unilorin

The Director-General/Chief Executive of Michael Imoudu National Institute for Labour Studies (MINILS), Ilorin, Comrade Issa Aremu has made a request for solidification of the existing relationship and collaboration between MINILS and University of Ilorin (UNILORIN).

Comrade Aremu made the request during a courtesy call he made with the Management staff of MINILS to the Vice Chancellor of University of Ilorin, Professor Sulyman Age Abdulkareem in his office on Tuesday, 21st September, 2021.

Speaking on the affiliation of MINILS with UNILORIN, the Director-General commended the efforts of the Vice Chancellor for the endorsement of the degree programme, adding that MINILS needs to benefit from UNILORIN in terms of good environment, infrastructure and corporate governance.

The Director-General who appreciated the award presented to him by UNILORIN 89.3 FM, disclosed the Institute’s interest for partnership with the station in popularizing labour matters.

While soliciting for more affiliated B.Sc Degree programmes with MINILS, Comrade Aremu assured the VC that the affiliation between the two Institutions will continue to be of mutual benefits.

He used the medium to invite the University community to the Independent Day celebration holding in MINILS on Friday, 1st October 2021.

Comrade Aremu also visited the Dean, Faculty of Management Sciences of the University, Prof. Umar Gunu, the Director, Centre for Affiliated Studies, Professor Ahmad Abdulsalam as well as the Faculty Board of the Industrial Relations Department.

He lauded the dynamism of Professor Umar Gunu in handling the affairs of the Faculty and appreciated Professor Abdulsalam for his dedication and enterprising ambition in ensuring continuous progressof the affiliation of MINILS degree progamme with the University.

The Director-General urged the Faculty members of the Industrial Relations Department to intensify efforts to cultivate students not only in learning, but also in character. He further requested their participation in the forthcoming Independent Day Celebration tagged “Labour Issues since Independence” and the LabourSummit to be held in MINILS.

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Sulyman Age Abdulkareem in his remark, acknowledged the request of adding other courses and commencement of Masters Programme. He took time to explain the administrative procedures involved. He also assured that the Institute would keep enjoying every benefit as an affiliate of UNILORIN.

Professor Abdulkareem expressed his optimism that MINILS’s specializing in the practical aspects of what is being taught in the affiliated programme would contribute to breeding graduates that are well grounded and relevant to the labour market even more than conventional graduates.

The Dean, Faculty of Management Sciences of the University, Prof.  Umar Gunu who commended the Director-General and his Management team for the visit, promised to ensure the synergy between the University and MINILS produce effective result.

In his remark, the Director, Centre for Affiliated Studies, Professor Ahmad Abdulsalam assured the Institute of clear, effective and efficient monitoring of all the activities of the affiliated programme.

Earlier, the Head of Department, Academic and Distance Learning Programme, Dr. Sylvanus Adamade,appreciated the Vice Chancellor for signing the affiliation documents which made JAMB accreditationfor the programme possible.

He also solicited for linking of the programme to the UNILORIN website to enhance awareness for admission seekers of the affiliated programme to the Institution.

Dr. Adamade while requesting for the expansion of the programme to include Master’s Degree courses and other affiliated courses, added that such opportunity will allow adult working students to benefit as Trade Unionists and Industrial Relations practitioners.

In a vote of thanks, the Director, Social Protection Department, Mrs. Ajiboye thanked the Vice Chancellor and his team for the warm welcome.
