A group of women in Ebonyi State has called on the Inspector General of Police and Governor David Umahi to investigate an alleged disruption of their August meeting by Ebubeagu Security Personnel at People’s Club Arena, Abakaliki.

Speaking during a protest in Abakaliki, the leader of the women, Mrs. Charity Chukwuemeka, alleged that Ebubeagu operatives invaded the venue of the meeting and shot sporadically, noting that some of the women who came from various parts of the country to participate in the event were injured.

She described the action as a sacrilege on the culture of Igbo women and unwarranted, considering that they informed notable security agencies before embarking on the August meeting.

When contacted, the Security Consultant to the State government, Chief Stanley Okoroemegha claimed that Ebubeagu Operatives invaded the meeting following a security tipoff that the venue would be used by unknown gunmen to launch attacks in Ebonyi State.

He noted that August meeting holds in local communities and not capital city, emphasising that those arrested at the venue would be prosecuted.(FRCN/Accurate)
