Edo Government is set to launch a comprehensive development master plan to celebrate 33 years of the state’s creation.
Ms Isoken Omo, Commissioner for Physical Planning, Housing, Urban and Regional Development, announced this in Benin on Tuesday at a news conference to outline events for the celebration.
Omo said the launch, to take place during the week-long celebration, would underscore the government’s commitment to strategic planning and sustainable development.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the celebration, themed: “The Glory of New Edo Nation”, is scheduled to run from Aug. 25 to Aug. 31.
The commissioner said the master plan was designed to drive economic growth, improve infrastructure, and enhance the overall quality of life for Edo residents.
“The plan is the culmination of extensive research, stakeholders’ engagement, and experts’ analysis.
“We recognise that effective planning is crucial for unlocking Edo State’s full potential.
“This master plan will serve as a roadmap for our development efforts, ensuring that we make informed decisions that benefit our people,” she said.
Omo noted that the master plan focused on key areas such as urban development, transportation, education, healthcare, and economic empowerment.
According to her, it also prioritises environmental sustainability and social inclusion, reflecting the government’s commitment to leaving no one behind.
Corroborating Omo’s stance, Chris Nehikhare, state Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, said Edo had been a state with a rich history of innovation and progress from its creation to the present day.
He said the government’s investment in regional planning demonstrated its dedication to building on the legacy and creating a brighter future for generations to come.
“The launch of the master plan is a testament to the government’s transparency and accountability,” he said.
Nehikhare, who acknowledged the contributions of past leaders and stakeholders, said prominent sons and daughters of the state would be honoured as part of the celebration. NAN
