Federal Government has appealed to all the beneficiaries of its “Trade Moni” loans who are yet to payback to start repayment in order for government to extend the gesture to more poor Nigerians.
The call was made by the focal person of the National Social Investment Programme, NSIP, in kwara state Hajia Basirah AbdulRasaq in Ilorin while addressing the pressmen on the efforts of government in alleviating poverty in the land.
“Trade Moni” is one of the initiative of Federal Government under National Social Investment programme, NSIP, which was designed to assist the petty traders across the country to expand their businesses with N10,000 loans with advantage of accessing more after the repayment of the money.
Speaking, Hajia Basirah said, about 10,000 people benefitted from “Trader Moni” programme in kwara state with over N1.3bn disbursed to them are unwilling to repay the loan.
“Poor masses are not ready to pay back the loans after collection because of the attitude of Nigerians to anything from the government, thinking it is national cake”
“Another challenge we are facing is; those that disbursed the money do not have traceable records of beneficiaries like phone numbers and addresses, this making it difficult to track them for repayment,” Hajia Basirah said.
“Trader Moni” was flagged off in kwara state by the Vice-President of Nigeria, Professor Yemi Osinbajo in 2019 and all the beneficiaries of that N10,000 were expected to repay the loans in order for them to have access to higher amount up to N50,000.
Hajia Basirah also, called on the over 15,000 disengaged N-power beneficiaries in the state to come forward to National Social Investment Programme, NSIP, office and declare interest in K-power programme designed by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq administration to absorb the skilled ones into state MDAs.
