FG ask farmers to seek alternative animal feeds

The Federal Government has called on Nigerian farmers to look for alternative source of feeds for their animals to enable the country attain sustainable food security.

The Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr Muhammed Abubakar stated this at the second National Animal Feed Summit in Abuja.

The program was organised by the Center for Journalism Innovation and Development (CJID) in collaboration with the ministry and other relevant agencies.

Dr Abubarka said it was time farmers to embrace technology for improved animal feeds.

Similarly, the President, Nigerian Society for Animal Production, Professor Francis Abeke, said that, Nigeria must harness and process alternative feed resources available nationwide to enable the country reduce cost of food production.

Some of the participants, Tobi Oluwatola and Fisayo Kayode, noted that the summit was aimed at enabling the country meet the feeding need of the country’s growing population.

The theme of the summit is Harnessing Alternative Feed Resources For Sustainable Animal Feed Supply. (RN)
