Governor, Samuel Ortom on Benue state has advised youths in his state to apply for the N2 billion fund at the Bank of Industry, BoI, to start businesses.

Ortom gave the advice in Makurdi during opening ceremony of the Benue Youths Summit.

He said the nation had created new opportunities for the present generation such as ICT and digital revolution that previously existed in science fiction.

He acknowledged the fact that many Nigerian youths, including a few from Benue, have become notable figures in the new world of fashion, sports, arts and entertainment, as well as music, film, comedy and other creative enterprises.

The governor explained that all the above mentioned have become routes to self-actualisation for many young Nigerians.

He noted that many youths in other parts of the country are already having opportunities in other sectors of the economy like transport, education, health, media.

The governor said his administration has not only supported farmers through subsidised fertilizers but had also gone into partnership with the Bank of Industry for farmers to have access to loans.

He, therefore, urged youths to venture into agriculture through the loan available at the BoI, stressing that such loans only attract a five percent interest rate.

“For us in Benue State, we have a comparative advantage in agriculture. That is why our administration is making deliberate efforts to support our farmers through subsidy on fertilizer and farm machinery such as tractors”

“Let me inform you, my dear Benue youths, that the partnership this administration has with the Bank of Industry is still running. I, therefore, encourage you to access the loans at only five percent interest rate to start your businesses through the agriculture-value chain-production, through processing and marketing,” Ortom said.
