JBPT Seizes Contraband Worth N92M, Says Only 13 Petrol Tanker Permitted to Load

Operation Joint Border Patrol Team, Sector 3 command on Wednesday 11th of August, disclosed that it has seized contraband worth N92, 547,752.00 in the second quarter of the year.

Addressing Journalists at the headquarters of the sector 3, in Ilorin Custom Area Command, Coordinator of the team, Compt. Olugboyega Peters said “Our streamline measures, professional skills, uncommon courage and tactical operational strategies adopted had yielded positive results”

Peters revealed that in the period under reviewed the sector made a total of eighty two seizures of different items, which includes 650 Sacks of 60 liters each of Diesel, 1,735 Bags of foreign parboiled Rice of 50Kg each, 1,415 Jerry cans of 25 liters of Petrol, 33 used Vehicles, 10 Motorcycles among others, with the total duty paid value of 92 million, 547 thousand ,752, kobo”

He, also disclosed that “in conjunction with the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC and the Department of Petroleum Resources only 13 petrol tankers were granted approval to load petroleum products every week to border communities, to prevent excess product being smuggled out of the country”

He, added that “Just yesterday, the sector 3 held a sensitization meeting with IPMAN Kwara State Chapter and Petrol station owners about the do’s and don’ts, as heavy sanction/penalty await any erring persons or group of persons. The sector will not stop on mass sensitization of our youths, Rice Millers Association, Market Men/Women Associations, Transport Union Associations, students, traditional institutions, Manufactures Association of Nigeria (MAN) and other relevant stakeholders on dangers of smuggling”

Saying that the “Sector under my watch will continue to be at the forefront of anti- smuggling activities and will not relent on our oars to make the smuggling activities unattractive to our teeming youth, while maintaining the high standard and professionalism in performing our duties to the service and to the nation at large. I wish to advise Community Leaders, Youth leaders, Opinion molders to shun smuggling for the better our dear country” Peter said
