The Seriki n Fulani in Kwara South Senatorial District, Adamu Ojonla Mahmud, has called for a collective collaboration in tackling insecurity, saying tribal tagging of perpetrators of the menace could be a diversionary tactic by those sponsoring the evil act.
Mahmud, who is the Ahron of Kwara South made the call while speaking with journalists in Ilorin over the recent kidnapping in the state and the killing of monarch..
He said tagging crimes or criminal activities to a tribe would not help the country especially now that the nation needed unity among its citizens.
The elder stateman, who frowned at the profiling of his ethnic as kidnappers, said “Kidnappings are always quickly tagged to Fulani without waiting for security agencies to do their work through investigaton of who the perpetrators of the crime are.
“Take for instance the case of the two monarchs that were killed in Ekiti State and the one in Kwara South, some people had earlier tagged Fulanis as the culprits of the crime, but not until security apprehended some suspects, criminality has nothing to do with the tribe,” he said,
Mahmud, however applauded the security agencies for their investigation and arrest of the culprits that let the people know the clear picture of the those behind the crime.
He urged Nigerians, particularly Kwarans to always see themselves as one big family, saying no country or society could develop in an atmosphere of rancor.
He also expressed the commitment of Fulani to the peace and development of Kwara state and the country at large.
He added that the ethnic will continue to complement the government’s programmes towards the security of lives and properties and advised Nigerians, particularly Kwarans to desist from taking the law into their own hands.
The stateman also advised the traditional rulers from Kwara South to always enlighten their people on self-security and inform them on the role to play in curbing the menace.
He also advised the people to be security conscious and report any suspicious movement to the security agencies.
The Ahron of Kwara South who lauded the efforts of President Bola Tinubu and Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq towards the security of lives and properties, urged them and other concerned authorities to improve the security architecture of the state and country.
