People of Iwoye community of Ayedun in Oke-Ero local government area of kwara state have accused the office of the state Attorney General of shielding Oba Olusegun Rotimi and his supporters from facing justice anytime they were charged to Court for criminal offense.

Addressing journalists at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) press centre on Monday, Barrister Akinmade Abolarin who spoke on behalf of the community people said “reason for calling for this press conference is because of glaring injustice being perpetuated by a certain group of people in the state Ministry of Justice”

“there has been a lingering dispute between the people of Iwoye and his royal highness, Oba Olusegun Rotimi and his supporters but, it is disturbing to see that anytime Obajisun, Oba Olusegun Abayomi Rotimi of Ayedun and his supporters commit a crime, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Kwara state readily comes to their rescue, for discontinuance of the criminal case”

Abolarin stated that “for instance, a direct complaint was filled at the Upper Court, Omu-Aran against the person of Oba Olusegun Rotimi, for allegedly forging of document belonging to the community and relating to Iwoye community. Summons was issued against him and hearing date fixed, but to our surprise, Ministry of Justice appeared with a message from Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice for discontinued the case, citing the power of the Attorney General”

Abolarin also said there was another case involving four suspects who confessed to be sent by Obajisun-in-Council to attack and assault one Chief Adeyemi Afolayan and the suspects were charged to court by the men of state C.I.D, but, as usual the case was also terminated by the office of the Attorney General.

Abolarin, further said that the pertinent question any reasonable person would ask is “what is the interest of the Honourable Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in Ayedun and Iwoye matters”

The group, however appeal to the Governor and State House of Assembly to come to their rescue, said “our humble but desperate appeal is to the Executive Governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to in public interest, in the interest of justice and in order to prevent a continued abuse of legal process to caution the office of the Attorney General and to direct him to exercise his powers judicially and judiciously”

“We also appeal to the Kwara State House of Assembly to invite the Attorney General to appear before it and explain his stand in Ayedun and Iwoye matters, saying certainly the interest and action of the Attorney General is beyond all reasons. It is unfair, biased and is capable of destroying our system”
