Kwara First Lady, Experts Warns Youths on Effects of Drug Abuse

The wife of the Kwara State Governor and First Lady, Dr. Olufolake AbdulRazaq has warned Youths against Indiscriminate use of drugs and other addictive substances otherwise referred to as drug abuse said it kill faster, silently and ruin their future.

Dr. Olufolake AbdulRazaq made this assertion in Ilorin, while speaking at a public lecture organized as part of activities to mark the 2021 United Nations Day against drug abuse.

Dr. AbdulRazaq, who was represented by the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Raji Razaq condemned the use of drugs without prescription from a certified medical practitioner.

The First Lady reaffirmed the commitment of the State Government at embarking on various productive programmes for youths in the State to better their lifes and make them actualize their vision.

She gave kudos to the State Drug Control Committee for always being proactive and urged the team not to rest on its oars in order to minimize the prevalence of drug abuse in the State.

Also speaking, the Chairman of the State Branch of the Nigerian Medical Association, Prof. Baba Issa enlightened the Students on the effects of drug abuse which he said, can result in mental disorder, suicide and sometimes premature death.

The Chairperson, Kwara State Drug Control Committee, Pharmacist Barakat Olarewaju commended the First Lady for being a champion in the campaign against drug abuse in the State.

She said students should shun and abstain from using unprescribed drugs and making friends with drug pussers to prevent untimely death.

In his remarks, the Students’ Union President, Comrade AbdulAzeez Muhammed commended the State Government on the sensitization activities which is aimed at educating and enlightening the Students to have positive attitudes to drug abuse.
