As part of efforts to ensure food security in the state and country, the Kwara state government on Tuesday supported four thousand farmers with agricultural inputs ahead of the coming rainy season farm.
Distributing the material to farmers gathered at the government house Ilorin, the Deputy Governor of the state, Mr Kayode Alabi, said the incentives would be distributed across the sixteen local government areas in the state.
”The aim of the programme is to enable farmers to engage in all year-round farming at ease”, he stated.
Mr Alabi added that the state government has procured fifteen tractors and provided bulldozers to clear more land for farmers to expand their businesses.
He urged the beneficiaries of the inputs to use the incentives for the right purpose.
Also speaking, the state Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Mallam Abdullateef Gidado, Alakawa said the support was targeted at small-scale farmers to enable them to grow their businesses.
Expressing appreciation to the government for the gesture on behalf of the beneficiaries, the acting Coordinator of, the Rice Farmers Association of Nigeria, RIFAN, Kwara State Chapter, Mallam Mohammed Salihu, thanked the government and assured that the gesture will boost agricultural output and ensure food security in the state and country.
