The Kwara State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has applauded Governor Bassey Edet Otu of Cross River State over the appointment of a frontline Journalist, Rasheed Olanrewaju Zubair, as his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity.
The NUJ noted that the choice of Zubair, a Senior Correspondent with the African Independent Television (AIT) in Cross River State, is an affirmation that Governor Otu is a detribalised Nigerian.
In a statement, the Chairman, Kwara State Council of NUJ, Abdullateef ‘Lanre Ahmed, observed that the Zubair’s pick signposted a decision taken devoid of ethnic and religious sentiment.
Ahmed stated that Governor Otu has carved a niche for himself and would surely have his name properly chronicled in the book of history.
He urged other State Governors to walk their talks and demonstrate unity in diversity of the nation beyond the much touted lip service of one Nigeria agenda.
The NUJ Chairman said the state council of NUJ was delighted that Zubair, an indigene of Ilorin, Kwara State capital has continued to be a worthy ambassador of the Emirate community in Cross River State since his deployment as State Correspondent of AIT.
Ahmed therefore urged the new media aide to work hard and rededicate himself to the task ahead with a view to justifying the trust and confidence invested in him with the appointment.
Notwithstanding the challenging environment in the media industry, the NUJ Chairman pledged the support of the union to enable him succeed in the assignments of his office.
