National leadership of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) on Wednesday 22nd of April, 2021 swear in comrade Akinsola Akinwumi as the Kwara state chairman of the union after reconciliation meeting with aggrieved candidate in the last delegates conference.
The Union held its 5th delegate conference on November 2020 in Ilorin in which produced other members of the executive except chairmanship and that create vacuum in the position of the state chairman.
A development which prompted the national leadership of the union to Wade in and set up a commission to reconcile aggrived members which paved way for the inaguration of Akinwumi as the new state chairman at a ceremony held at the state secretariat of Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) along air port road, Ilorin
The committee on Resolution of Kwara state TUC election crisis was headed by comrade Martin Egbanubi who doubles as General Secretary of Nigeria Union of Allied Health Professionals ,an affiliate of TUC.
Speaking with Journalists shortly after the inaguration, Egbanubi said the reconciliation panel “adopted principle of social dialogue” in resolving the issues.
He urged the new leadership of the union to extend hands of fellowship to all in order to build a stronger union which the Congress is reputed for.
Aswering another question on the lingering issue of minimum wage, he insisted that the new minimum wage which is a product of tripatriate agreement, had become a law which govenors must pay to demonstrate that they have respect for rule of law.
“The excuses being given by some governors is not acceptable to us “, he said.
Also speaking,the newly inaugurated state chairman of the union, promised that he will
pursue the interest of workers vigorously by constantly engaging employers of labour .
He assured that he would not betray their trust in the on going agitation by the organized labour for the implementation of N30,000 new minimum wage by the Kwara state government for workers in the state.
