Two undergraduate students in the department of engineering ,Kwara state university, Malete, have recorded a major research brake-through with the design and construction of light aircraft.
The two undergraduates; Abdulzahir Okinobayo Usman and Israel Oluwagbemi Adeniyi, designed and constructed the one-seater turbo propeller engine aircraft under the supervision of thier lecturer, Professor AbdulGaniyu Alabi.
This is just as the university is set to honour 98 first class graduates at a combined convocation ceremony on Saturday.
Vice chancellor of the university, Prof Muhammed Mustafa Akanbi announced these at a press briefing ahead of its 8th and 9th combined convocation ceremony.
He said another staff of the faculty of engineering of the university, Engineer Abdulbaqi Jinadu along side his supervisees Ayodele Akangbge Tunde and Haleem Olamide Olantiwo have also developed a chemical device that will prevent fire outbreak in the event of air misharp .
“Our university is setting the pace in aircraft engineering in Nigeria. Two students,Abdulzahir Okinobanyi Usman and Israel Oluwagbemi Adeniyi under the supervision of Professor AbdulGaniyu Alabi designed and constructed a light aicraft.The one-seater turbo propeller engine aircraft is set to attain an attitude 13,000 feet ,220Km/h speed. The light aircraft which is the first of it’s kind in the university will soon be ready for a test flight”, he said.
The vice chancellor said the forthcoming graduation ceremony of the university will be conducted in highbrid mode as only students who made first class and few second class will be allowed into the convocation areana.
He said a total of 6,620 students will be graduating in the combined graduation out of which he said, 98 made first class.
Giving the brake down, he said 3,864 will be graduating for 2019/2020 while 2, 756 will be graduating for 2021.
