KWSG to Sue Illegal Orphanage Home for Child Trafficking

    Orphanage homes in Kwara State have been charged to be duly registered before they operate and ensure that they renew their registrations annually.

    The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajia Afusat Nike Ibrahim gave this charge in the Ministry while meeting with some representatives from orphanage homes operating in the state.

    Hajia Ibrahim stressed that all orphanage homes should operate within the ambit of the law, reiterating that cases of adoption accrue legal procedure and emphasized that orphanage homes should carry out adoption procedure through the Ministry.

    She further warned that anyone or corporate body that engages in illegal adoption would be charged with child theft or child trafficking.

    The Permanent Secretary also called for submission of monthly reports of activities henceforth, noting that quarterly meetings will be held with orphanage homes to strengthen the relationship between them and the Ministry.

    The representatives of the orphanage homes present appreciated the efforts of the Ministry for the provision of Covid-19 palliatives and promised to cooperate with the Ministry.
