The massive house belonging to the late premier of defunct Western Region Chief Samuel Ladoke Akintola has been donated to the Oyo state university named after him – Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso.
This was an highlight of the 15th convocation ceremonies of the institution which is being rounded off on Saturday, with awards of degrees to postgraduate students and award of honorary doctorate degrees.
Chief Samuel Ládòkè Akíntọ́lá otherwise known as S.L.A., who lived between 6 July 1910-15 January 1966, was a Nigerian politician, aristocrat, orator, and lawyer.
Akintola was one of the founding fathers of modern Nigeria, he served as Oloye Aare Ona Kakanfo XIII of Yorubaland and served as premier of Western Nigeria from independence in 1960 till his assassination in 1966.
Disclosing the development Pro-Chancellor and Chairman Governing Council Professor Ayodeji Oludare Omole in his speech at the programme being held at the The Great Hall of the institution, said:
“I wish to bring to the attention of the university community and our guests that Council at its last meeting was glad to receive a report on the decision of the family of the former Premier of the Western Region, Chief S.L. Akintola, who this university is named after, to donate for the use of the university their house at Oke-Ado, in Ogbomoso.
“Council not only approved that the house be renovated and be put to use by the university management but also directed that the family should be appreciated. Council not only appreciates the good gesture of the family but remain eternally grateful to them.” (OyoNews)
