Late philanthropist wills building to University of Ilorin

The management of the University of Ilorin has taken possession of a landed property willed to the institution by a deceased philanthropist, Alhaji Sulyman Lawal.

The building, a 7-bed-room detached house, which has a compliment of two self-contained boys-quarters, is sited on three plots of land.

Speaking at the event, which held at the location of the property in the Government Reservation Area (GRA), Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, paid glowing tributes to the memory of the late philanthropist for writing his name in gold through the donation of the property to the University of Ilorin.

The Vice Chancellor said that the University would forever remain grateful to the late Chairman of Sulyman Lawal Foundation for donating the house towards the advancement of knowledge and service to humanity.

Prof. Egbewole assured that the building would be used by the University for all that would promote teaching and learning as well as human capacity development.

The Vice-Chancellor implored other well-to-do individuals to emulate the philanthropic dispositions of the late Alhaji Lawal, saying that was one of the surest ways of leaving enduring legacies on the sand of time as he said that no property is too small to be donated to the University.

Also speaking, the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Management Services), Prof. Sulyman Funsho Ambali, recalled that Alhaji Lawal had promised to donate to the University in his lifetime, saying that it was a thing of joy that he eventually fulfilled his promise through his will.

Prof. Ambali, who described the benefactor as a profound philanthropist who lived for humanity, said that the University of Ilorin is not the only institution that benefited from the philanthropist’s gesture.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor said that the donation is one of many things to come to the University of Ilorin during the tenure of Prof. Egbewole as Vice-Chancellor as he expressed the conviction that more of such would come to the University.

The Vice Chancellor was also accompanied to the site of the property by the Deputy Vice Chancellor(Academic), Prof. Olubunmi Omotesho; the Registrar, Mr Mansur Adeleke Alfanla; the Bursar, Mr Hakeem Sonde; the University Librarian, Dr Kamaldeen Omopupa; the Director of Works, Engr R. K. Amao; and the Ag. Director of the Physical Planning Unit, QS AbdulRahman Toyin Jimoh, among others.
