The Director General of the National Institute of Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS), Prof. Abubakar Olarewaju Sulaiman has urged the political stakeholders to connect religions with politics to influence good governance.
Prof. Sulaiman popularly known as ‘Amana’ made the call on Saturday at the public lecture organised by ‘Educated Youths In Kwara Politics’ held in Ilorin, Kwara State Capital.
He commended the organiser of the programme for using their personal resources to promote youth participation in politics and putting capacity at the front burner, saying good governance was not negotiable and as youths, they were in a better position to make it happen.
“The future of Kwara is in our hands, most especially you as youths. You have to be more active in the course of making the state great.
“Religion must be connected with politics, just like we all know that good believers would always put the interest of the people ahead of personal gain and be prudent in governance.
“This could be only achieved by paying more attention to the future of the state, your tomorrow. The future where there will be numerous job opportunities and adequate provision of basic amenities to make life more enjoyable.
“The future where you will be more proud to be a kwarans. You have to be more circumspect in determining who to lead the state in the next few years,” he said.
NILDS DG also commended Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq on Infrastructure development and acknowledged the efforts of the past governors in the development of the state, noting that the future could be better with sincere and pious people in the position of authorities.
Early in his sermon the guest lecturer of the occasion, Shiek Luqman Isalekoto underscored the importance of personal development, saying this would give them an edge and enhance their performance when giving appointments.
“As a youth, you have to take your personal development very seriously because this is the only thing that can make you a force to reckon with and make you a valuable addition to any government.
“You must be creative and visionary and more importantly always appear tidy. All these could also be traced to Prof. Abubakar Sulaiman when he was a young lecturer I know how he was making intellectual contributions to academics and any issues of national development in media space,” he said.
The Islamic scholar also called on public office holders and politicians to always make the interest of the masses a priority by deploying justice in governance.
