The founder of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Dr. Boniface Aniebonam, and the chairman of the party’s board of trustees (BoT) , Dr Temitope Aluko, have alerted the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) about plan by some unauthorized individuals to change the party’s logo and also amend its constitution.
Aniebonam and Aluko drew the attention of the INEC to the unacceptable development through their lawyers – Peter Ogah and Partners in a letter dated September 13, 2023.
The letter, signed by Peter Ogah Esq, was titled: “Unauthorized and fraudulent plans to change the logo and amend the constitution of the Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP)”.
The letter reads:” We act as solicitors to the New Nigeria People’s Party represented by Dr. Boniface Okechukwu Aniebonam, the founder and DrTemitope Aluko, the chairmam Board of Trustees (“the Board’) of Plot 511, Herbert Macaulay Way. Suite A1-A3. William’s Plaza, Zone 4, Wuse, FCT Abuja, Nigeria (‘our clients’) and we write upon their instruction.
“We have it on record that the Commission is in receipt of our letter of 27 August, 2023,received on the 28th of August, 2023 notifying the Commission of the
extra-ordinary meeting of the Board set to hold on the 22nd of September, 2023. Our clients
further restate their invitation to the Commission to observe the proceedings and to note the resolutions to be reached at the said meeting.
“Our clients however informed us that while the Board is preparing for the said meeting, their attention was being drawn to a news item in the media that some individuals are
taking steps to change the NNPP’s logo, and to also amend the party’s Constitution, hence the need to place this caveat immediately.
” The Commission is hereby formally notified of the unauthorized and fraudulent plans by some individuals to change the party’s logo and amend the party’s Constitution and that same must not be countenanced or registered by the Commission as the
alterations and amendments sought to be smuggled did not emanate from the party.
“We thank you for your kind attention and commend the Commission for always
ensuring the supremacy of the rule of law and justice, and please accept the assurances of our highest esteem always sir”.
In another letter, dated September 11 and addressed to Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso by the NNPP’s lawyers, the former presidential candidate of the party was notified of the expiration of the memorandum of understanding(MoU) signed between it and The National Movement(TNM() and Kwankwasiya Group on February 21, 2022.
The letter titled, Re: Memorandum OF Understanding(MoU) between
Nigeria People’s Party and the National Movement and Kwankwasiya Group – Notification of the expiration of the MoU and signed by Peter Ogah, Esq. reads partly:
“Our clients have brought to our attention the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU)
executed on the 21st of February, 2022 between the representatives of the Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), and the representatives of your Groups; The National Movement (TNM) and Kwankwasiya for the purpose of using the NNPP as a platform for the 2023 general elections.
“It is our clients’ brief that the NNPP on its part was true to their word under the gentleman agreement by giving your groups the necessary facilities, support and platform to contest in the 2023 general elections, the general elections as planned have come and gone, and although the plan to take over power at the national level was not actualized, it was however a remarkable attempt.
“It is our clients’ further statement that the NNPP appreciates your groups for considering their party as a viable party to work with in the just concluded general elections, and to formally notify you and your groups that the said MoU entered on the 21st of February, 2022 under reference has expired upon the completion of the 2023 general elections, and that the NNPP thanks you for your cooperation, and wishes you and your groups the very best in your future political endeavours”.
